The German author
Cornelia Funke was born 1958 in Dorsten, Westphalia. She
began her career as a social worker and then
moved in to illustrating children’s
books. During
that time, she realized that she wanted to create her own stories
and wrote her first story at age 35. Ms. Funke is the author of the bestselling
Inkheart trilogy. Three of her novels have been made
into movies: Dragon Rider, Inkheart, and The Thief
Lord. As of 2006 she lives
in Los Angeles with
her 16-year-old daughter, Anna, and 11-year-old son, Ben. Her
husband of 26 years,
Rolf, died of cancer in March 2006.
