Teaching & Learning

Axtell ISD is dedicated to the success of all of its students and is committed to excellence in teaching and learning. The vision of the Teaching & Learning Department is to create growth-based learning environments that engage students through world-class instruction. Through a district-created, teacher-lead curriculum, our students will adaptively use knowledge, concepts, content, skills, and ideals that promote the success of individual students and their lifelong learning goals. Collaborating with a talented instructional staff, the curriculum department focuses on research-based instructional best practices and works to provide a rigorous curriculum designed to ensure innovative, customized learning opportunities for all students.

For those invested in the teaching and learning processes in Axtell ISD, we believe curriculum is the "what content" and "when content should be taught." It is based on the state standards and crafted through local knowledge and expertise. Instruction then is the "how knowledge and skills" are presented for mastery. Teachers are the content and pedagogical experts in the classroom. Through a plan of goal-setting, observation, instructional coaching, and continual reflection, Axtell ISD plans content-sound lessons, develops goal-based assessments, and fosters improvement-purposed relationships among all stakeholders.
